  • A lifelong Spartanburg resident and community advocate, James is running for Mayor to deliver people-powered, accountable leadership for every neighborhood.

  • To make city government work for everyone, focusing on safer streets, public engagement, and transparent budgeting.

  • James seeks to improve the quality of law enforcement through various proven means such as:

    Create a citizen’s review board with subpoena powers to review and investigate law enforcement actions.

    Engage the public and stakeholders to develop focused strategies to reduce violent crime.

    Improve neighborhood and city parks and centers with street lighting upgrades, camera and technological monitoring, and a mobile community outreach partnership to deliver timely information and services to residents.

    Supporting crime watch and neighborhood support groups.

  • By creating a Mayor’s Youth Council to seek community-focused ideas on how best to deploy strategies to support our youth.

    James also believes in partnering with District 7, local colleges and universities, and other community groups to provide activities for our youth.

    Young people will help lead our transformation, as a part of the Mayor’s Advisory Resource Council (MARC) to advise the Mayor on needed resources, policies, and activities for our city.

    James also believes that the city should work to attract major recreational providers like Dave & Busters, Frankies Fun Park, and Boondocks Food and Fun into the City of Spartanburg.

    James further wants to attract and build a massive performance theater and convention center to allow our youth to help promote some of the largest events and trade conferences in the Southeastern United States.

  • We’ll make City Hall easy to see and easy to reach: plain-language budgets, an online service-request tracker, open-data dashboards, and monthly town halls. James believes that for government to shine, there must be sunshine, so we’ll post planned expenditures, consult the community before purchases, practice full transparency, and expand public-facing staff availability. We will also restore and expand City Council’s role and accessibility with stronger committees, regular public hearings, and published office hours.

  • It means independent leadership. James answers to the people of Spartanburg, not special interests.
